Another great New Zealand Sauv Blanc with a soft finish that makes for an easy drink, Toi Toi’s 2021 Marlborough is a winner.

Living in Australia, we’re spoiled for choice. We have an amazing wine industry locally, and we’re only a skip, hop, and a jump away from our neighbours in New Zealand, who also have an amazing wine industry.

Marlborough is one of the more known regions for wine, with Sauvignon Blanc the obvious wine style that comes to mind.

There is just so much Kiwi Sauv Blanc available in Australian stores that the selection becomes all too dizzying, but every drop is seemingly great, from the eight buck “cheap” Marlborough to the slightly more expensive varieties.

Toi Toi’s Marlborough Sauv Blanc is not much more expensive, priced at $13.99 in Australia, though your bottle-o can probably sell it for $12, which is what we found it for. It comes in a simple bottle with a nice label, and almost looks like the sort of signature logo that wouldn’t be out of place on a sailboat.

Toi Toi 2021 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Twist open the screw top and you’ll find a young wine, evident from just how pale the colour is. Chilled, poured, and sipped, this wine tastes delightful, and offering absolutely no harshness or edge to your drink.

This is clearly a young wine, but it feels more mature than its age would suggest.

A soft nose with flavours of passionfruit and the tang of kiwi fruit are the obvious points, with the softness of honey also evident, though I’m also reminded of soft cheese when I sip Toi Toi’s 2021 Sauv Blanc.

All up, it is a delightful drink and a Sauvignon Blanc to remember. I’m now keen to check out more of what Toi Toi makes, and to see whether the vineyard can recreate lightning in a bottle with other wine varieties.
